Are School Leaving Certificate Recognized In Germany?

Generally Indian school leaving certificates are recognised in Germany. So that’s not a major issue while applying to German Universities. But one thing should be kept in mind while applying to the bachelor programs in Germany. One can only study technical subjects if they have Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics in their 12th standard. For Medicine or other medical studies, one should have passed out their class 12th with Physics, Chemistry and Biology. Similarly for Management degree programs, you have been passed with Commerce as your majors in your final school year. Same aaplies to Humanities. The rule is simply clear, your subjects that you have opted in 12th gives you a subject restricted access to the bachelor programs in Germany.

Unlike other international universities, German institutions don’t provide hostels or accommodation to their students. They have set up regional Studentenwerks which takes care of the hostels or other accommodation options for International as well as German students. Everyone has to apply to the studentenwerk to be accommodated in the properties owned by them. There are various accommodation options available like a single apartment, 1/2/3 room apartments. You have to specify about your preferred option while applying for the accommodation at studentenwerk. The allotment takes place as per the date of receipt of application. So early applications will help you to get an accommodation with the studentenwerk.

Are Scholarships Available To Cover Up Living Expenses

Various organisations offer various scholarships to the international students doing their higher studies or research from German institutions. These institutions include DAAD, Humboldt Foundation, Helmholtz Association, Max Planck Society etc. There are different requirements for different scholarships offered. Some of them might ask you have a work experience while others will not ask for it. Bust the basic requirement of a scholarship is your academic grades. Internships or research papers published relevant to the degree program could be an added advantage while applying for scholarships. Generally scholarship deadlines are as early as one year prior to the start of the program.

What is the application procedure to study in Germany?

It’s better to decide the universities first where the student wants to apply because different universities follow different application procedures. Some accepts applications via uni-assist whereas some accepts direct applications. There is a difference in the documents required for application by different universities, some might ask for a GRE whereas other will not. Same applied to LOR’s and SOP’s. So, it’s better to check out with the universities which documents do they need for the application for a particular program for a particular intake.

German universities don’t follow such rankings. Every university in Germany offers quality education. So while short listing your universities, a student must focus more on the modules offered by that particular university in that particular program. Two universities offering the same program doesn’t mean that they are offering the same modules. So it’s better to decide the university to apply to after a thorough research on the modules offered by different universities for your choice of program.
